BreadCrumbs "Simply turning on one of their BreadCrumbs establishes a wireless high-speed data, voice and video network with a diameter of about a half a mile. Each additional one expands the network's area, depending on where it's deployed.
A Rajant network enables any wireless device -- such as a phone, a laptop computer, an infrared or visible-light camera or a biological or chemical sensor -- to communicate with any other wireless device within range of the BreadCrumbs maintaining the network.
Some BreadCrumbs contain equipment that can link their network to other networks, including the Internet. Others contain hard drives so they can function as servers.
The BreadCrumbs can run on alternating current, or a variety of batteries, including one that can keep them going for about a day.
Also, when more than one is used to establish a network, all have equal roles in maintaining the network. That means that if one is put out of commission, the network will keep functioning, although its size and shape may change. [Philadelphia Business Journal]
